Mental Health Counselor, LPC-Associate

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct individual, couples, and/or group counseling sessions to assess and address clients’ mental health concerns.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans based on clients’ needs, utilizing evidence-based therapeutic techniques.
  • Provide guidance and support to clients in managing and coping with emotional and psychological challenges.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive and holistic care for clients.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records, adhering to ethical and legal guidelines.

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Valid provisional state licensure as a Mental Health Counselor.
  • Proven experience in providing counseling services, preferably in a clinical or private practice setting.
  • Knowledge of various therapeutic approaches and techniques, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy and solution-focused therapy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build trust with clients.

Duties and Responsibilities

Internship Summary:

This student internship focuses on learning and practicing mental health counseling services to clients in the southwest community. Student Interns also complete client related tasks such as research and documentation, while contributing within the clinical team, and conduct community outreach.

Requirements:

  • Enrolled in CACREP accredited Master’s Mental Health Counseling program
  • Receiving supervision from Mental Health Counseling program
  • Enrolled in Practicum or Internship I semester (non-accelerated program)
  • Completion of in-person counseling skills and techniques course

Preferred:

  • Fluency in both English/Spanish (reading, writing, and speaking)
  • Experience or specialty in child, family, or couples counseling
  • Experience or specialty in substance use counseling

Responsibilities

  • Direct Contact Hours: Counseling Services in one or more areas of specialty:
    • Individual Counseling
    • Telehealth Counseling
    • Group Counseling
    • Child & Adolescent Counseling
    • Crisis Intervention
  • Clinical & Administrative Tasks
    • Intake Review
    • Diagnostic Interview
    • Administration and/or interpretation of tests/assessments to clients
    • Treatment Planning
    • Communicate with clients, family members, other care providers regarding treatment planning, progress, updates and recommendations (as appropriate and depending on legal statues)
    • Documentation such as assessment, client contact, progress notes, summary reports, etc.
    • Conceptualization of client cases and appropriate referrals
    • Manage resources and materials for clinical practice (e.g. books, clinical instruments, questionnaires, assessments, etc.)
    • Caseload review and management
    • Functions (in-service training, staff meetings, orientation, supervision, community events)
    • Maintaining of office space that is safe and inviting
    • Other related duties as assigned
  • Non-Direct Client Hours
    • Support office operations tasks related to clients or organization  
    • Complete office projects related to clients or organization
    • Other duties as assigned

Professional Development

  • Researching and applying relevant research findings/evidence-based practices to inform treatment planning and interventions
  • Conference/training attendance related to continuing education and best practices
  • Consultation and peer supervision
  • Abide by ethical and legal standards set by the licensing board and the state
  • Abide by HIPAA regulations and practice.

Community Outreach

  • Conduct and participate in outreach events for prevention, awareness, education, wellness, mentoring, and advocacy activities (community workshops, training, education, online blogging etc.)
  • Other related duties as assigned
